Tulips are one of Holland’s most famous exported goods, and come spring in Amsterdam – you can’t go without discovering these pretty flowers. You’ll find them around the city, but nothing beats a visit to the world-famous flower strip or ‘bollenstreek’. De Keukenhof Gardens are open from March – May for the most beautiful sights of the tulip or discover Amsterdam’s annual Tulip Festival throughout April.
Festival season gets going
With more than 300 festivals taking place in and around the city every year, Amsterdam’s festival programme spans all tastes and genres. Choose from a plethora of festivals varying from film, music, culinary or lifestyle events taking place almost every weekend from April to May. Find your favourite festival in our events calendar.
Discover one of Amsterdam’s many parks
Amsterdam’s parks are beautiful in any season, but spring truly welcomes back the bigger crowds. You can see people cycling, jogging or walking their dog in the spring sunshine. The grass is greener and the trees and flowers are filled with blossom. Take one of the Conservatorium bikes to discover Amsterdam’s parks and blend in with the locals.
Music is all around you in Amsterdam
The month May sees the re-opening of the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre, hosting free performances of dance, (classical) music, cabaret and children’s events every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until September. Grab a bite and drink at the bar and enjoy the performances while enjoying some sunshine.
View the city from great heights
Amsterdam has many monumental towers that tower over the city, but people almost never get the chance to enjoy their views. During Open Tower Day in March, you can visit these monuments and take a moment at the top to enjoy their unique skyline view.
